Morocco, Tifelsine- drinking water

PROJECT DISPLAY

This project aims to establish a drinking water network for the village of Tifelsine. It is a decentralized cooperation project between the municipality of Adar in the Arghen valley (Province of Taroudannt, Morocco) and a commune of Hérault, France. The main objective is to improve access to water for the rural populations of this region of the Anti-Atlas. In parallel with the technical aspect, the project includes a training component which translates into training for the local population in the village on water uses and good sanitation practices and awareness of solid waste management. In addition, user associations in charge of the management of water networks will be technically and administratively trained. Finally, the project is part of an integrated water resource management process.

The village of Tifelsine is a landlocked village located at an altitude of 1,365 m, accessible by the track. The population is mainly composed of women with their young children and retirees. The majority of working men go to large cities for economic reasons. In summer or holidays, Tifelsine has 500 inhabitants.

The inhabitants feed themselves from communal wells. Women are in charge of the water chore. A decrease in water quality is observed in dry periods. The installation of a water network fed by a drilling upstream of the village would make it possible to secure the supply of drinking water to Tifelsine.

TECHNICAL SOLUTION

  • Development of a borehole
  • A pumping station (flow rate 1 l / s, HMT = 45 m)
  • A tank of 30 m3
  • 1600 ml supply and distribution network (DE 63 mm for the primary, DE 50 mm for the secondary and DE 32 mm for the tertiary)

DIRECT EXPECTED RESULTS

  • 500 inhabitants have access to drinking water
  • The management of the AEP network is sustainable through the association of users
  • Links created between the 2 territories (Arghen and Hérault)

EXPECTED IMPACTS

  • Improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants (reduction of the difficulty of the water chore)
